DESCRIPTION

A few years ago, the acronym ‘PMO’ was not common in project management; nowadays, it is wide spread and these three letters are quite visible in organizational structures. In a few years’ time many organizations, small and large, private and public, and in all industries and sectors have implemented ‘PMO’. However, key challenges remain starting with: organizations are still having project management challenges. Here we must ask, did the PMO fail or is something missing?

We believe, based on extensive experience in addition to global and regional research, that there is a communication gap between strategic objective and implementation. We know that when executives, most often, require a PMO they are expecting significant improvement in project and program performance. Where is the gap? The gap is that staff and/or consultant action is limited to building the PMO as a ‘reporting office’ rather than focusing on building he project management system along with the ‘office’.

What is the PM System? It is the methodology for managing projects. It includes the governance and control aspects. It emphasis the processes and knowledge that we need to handle the various deliverables. In addition, we must include project management competence, career path, and professional development aspects. In short, we must incorporate the methods, processes, tools, and people as essential and integrated components and this is what this course is all about.
